"Buddha Rashmi" religious functions held under Navy patronage
 
 

The religious functions held in view of the Buddha Rashmi Vesak celebrations were conducted under the patronage of the Sri Lanka Navy at Gangaramaya in Hunupitiya on 04th May 2015. The Minister of Disaster Management, Hon. A.H.M. Fowzie and the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Jayantha Perera ceremonially switched on the lights to illuminate the Vesak Zone. Mrs. Shalika Perera, Rear Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne (the Chief of Staff of the Navy) and senior naval officers were also among the distinguished persons that were present on the occasion.

The Buddha Rashmi Vesak celebrations are organized under the guidance of Chief Incumbent Ven. Galaboda Gnanissara Thera and the second day had been allocated to the Sri Lanka Navy to hold the religious events connected with the celebrations.

The day’s events commenced with a colourful procession conducted from the temple’s entrance to Seema Malakaya with the participation of a large number of naval personnel. Navy’s Bhakthi Gee Troupes recited Buddhist devotional songs onboard decorated naval craft which sailed in the illuminated Beira Lake adding colour to the occasion. Beautiful Vesak lanterns made by SLN personnel were also on display for public viewing.

A Dansala, which had been organized by the Sri Lanka Navy with the assistance of the President and the members of the Navy Seva Vanitha Unit, was also opened by the Commander of the Navy to serve refreshments to the general public visiting to view the colourful Vesak celebrations.
