Commander of the Navy participates in the opening ceremony of the Kotelawala Defence University Southern Campus
 

The first phase of the Southern Campus of the General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University was ceremonially declared open by His Excellency the President Maithripala Sirisena on 05th May 2015. The Commander of the Navy Vice Admiral Jayantha Perera was also among the distinguished invitees to the occasion.

The first phase consists of the faculty of Built Environment and Spatial Sciences which offers Bachelor’s degrees in architecture, quantity surveying and surveying sciences. It was constructed by the civil engineering personnel of the Sri Lanka Navy.

The KDU, a member of the Association of Commonwealth Universities, is the premier university in South Asia, offering graduate courses in defence studies. It is primarily entrusted in educating and grooming officer cadets for the Sri Lanka Army, Navy and Air Force. The university has also opened its doors to civil students who wish to continue their higher studies in the fields of engineering, law, management, social sciences and IT.
