SLNS Sayura returns home having attended IMDEX Asia 2015
 
 

Sri Lanka Navy’s Offshore Patrol Vessel, SLNS Sayura, returned on 27th May 2015 having attended the International Maritime Defence Exhibition (IMDEX Asia 2015), hailed as Asia Pacific's flagship maritime defence show, which was held in Singapore from 19th to 21st May 2015. The return ship was received by the Flag Officer Command Naval Fleet Commodore Asoka Liyanage and Deputy Commander Eastern Naval Area Commodore Ananda Guruge at a welcome ceremony held at the Inneryard Jetty of the Trincomalee Harbour.

IMDEX Asia 2015, that comprised of an exhibition, strategic conferences and a warships display, is a global platform for participants to keep abreast of the latest developments in maritime defence technology, discuss contemporary maritime issues and enhance inter-operability amongst the participating navies.

At the invitation extended by the Chief of Staff of the Singapore Navy Rear Admiral Lai Chung Han, SLN flag ship SLNS Sayura took part in the warships display, joining the twenty warships from twelve other navies around the world. In addition, the SLN officers, headed by Rear Admiral Eric Jayakody, participated in two key conferences held in conjunction with the biennial event: the International Maritime Security Conference (IMSC) held under the theme "Safe and Secure Seas-Strengthening Maritime Cooperation" and the International Naval Engineering Conference (INEC@IMDEX Asia) where the latest trends in naval engineering and technology were discussed.

The warships, comprising of patrol vessels, frigates and a submarine, were berthed at Changi Naval Base, giving the visitors a unique opportunity to have a close view, gain insights into the operations on board and interact with naval officers from across the world.
