Convocation of the 10th Intake of the Naval Institute of Technology (NIT)
 


The convocation of the 10th Intake of the NIT was held at the cultural hall of SLNS Gemunu on 19th June 2015. The Director General Engineering Rear Admiral Palitha Weerasinghe participated as the Chief Guest. Senior naval officers, visiting resource persons of the institute, parents and well wishers of the trainees were also present on the occasion.

Thirty-seven apprentices received their diplomas from the Chief Guest on completion of their three year studies in electrical, automobile, marine, hull repair & ship construction and electronic & telecommunication engineering. Those who excelled during their training received awards in recognition of their achievements. Apprentice (ERA) I, NLM Nafas won the award for the highest average in overall subjects in Engine Room Artificer category while Apprentice (L) I, IC Prasanna received the award for the highest average in overall subjects in electrical category. Apprentice (SW) II GSM Kumarasinghe received the award for the highest average in overall subjects in Hull Repair & Construction category. Apprentice (ER) I, HKS Lakmal, Apprentice (ER) I, AP Fernandopulle and Apprentice (ER) I, NLM Nafas received the awards for the Best Marksman, the Best Sportsman and the Best Apprentice respectively.

NIT is an ISO 9001:2008 certified institute of the Sri Lanka Navy dedicated to train naval personnel in technical subjects to make them skilled technicians. The institute, earlier known as the Naval Artificer Training Institute (NATI) continues its pioneering efforts to enhance knowledge and skills of naval personnel to meet the requirements of the Navy.
