Passing out of 221st regular intake of the Sri Lanka Navy
 

Three hundred sixty-seven naval recruits belonging to the 221st regular intake of the Sri Lanka Navy passed out at SLNS Shiksa in Poonewa on 20th June 2015. The Director General Personnel, Rear Admiral Sisira Jayakody was the Chief Guest and took the salute. The Commandant of SLNS Shiksha Captain Priyantha Perera, senior naval officers, parents, and well-wishers were also present on the occasion.

Recruit DC Thilakarathna was adjudged as the Best Recruit while Recruit HMCK Senavirathna was selected as the recruit with the highest aggregate in all subjects. Recruit WH Sandaruwan and Woman Recruit LA Kannangara won the awards for the Best Sportsman and the Best Sportswoman respectively. Recruit DMSC Ranasinghe won the award for the Best Marksman.

Addressing the gathering, the Chief Guest, Rear Admiral Jayakody stated that the naval personnel who passed out on completion of their basic naval training have an important responsibility to safeguard the hard won peace without allowing terrorism to rise again. He also expressed his confidence that all of them would carry out their naval duties conscientiously and with commitment in order to safeguard the motherland. On behalf of the Commander of the Navy, Rear Admiral Sisira Jayakody expressed his gratitude to the parents for giving the consent to their beloved sons and daughters to join the navy to defend the motherland and assist the national development.
