Director General Operation speaks on piracy at Defence Seminar

The Director General Operation, Rear Admiral Dharmendra Wettewa presented a special paper at the first session of the Defence Seminar 2015 on 01st September 2015. He spoke on “Piracy: A Threat to Maritime Security,” outlining how maritime security impacts world trade and global commercial activities. Drawing attention to the nexus that exists between human smuggling and piracy, Rear Admiral Wettewa emphasized the necessity of collaboration to address traditional and non-traditional security challenges. His lucid presentation was highly appreciated by the local as well as foreign participants for the naval perspective it offered to a very pertinent issue needing the immediate attention of the world leaders and defence policy makers. 

The well-attended international defence seminar was organized by the Sri Lankan Army for the fifth consecutive year. It was held under the theme, ‘National Security in the  Context of Emerging Global Threats’ at the Galadari Hotel, Colombo, from 01st to 02nd September with the participation of over 350 participants which included 66 delegates representing 34 countries and foreign missions.
