Phase II of Male Sea Cadets Assessment Camp - 2015 concludes

The Deputy Area Commander of the Eastern Naval Command, Commodore Ananda Guruge was the chief guest at the concluding ceremony of the phase II of the Male Sea Cadets Annual Assessment Camp – 2015 held at the main parade ground of the Naval and Maritime Academy (NMA) in Trincomalee on 09th September 2015. He also took the salute of the parade and presented the Commander of the Navy’s Challenge Cup, which is awarded to the Best Sea Cadet, to Petty Officer EKCK Priyadarshana of the Dharmashoka Vidyalaya, Ambalangoda.

The annual camp had the participation of 903 male sea cadets from 36 schools including the band representing the 4th Battalion of the National Cadet Corps (NCC). During the assessment camp, they were assessed on field craft, physical training, squad & weapon drill, drama, presentation skills, power of command, confidence building and academic subjects as per the NCC progarmme.

During the two-week long camp, all participants were exposed to the naval way of life which enabled them to see how a real navy functions with its numerous branches set up for the proper execution of the tasks assigned to it. They were also given a opportunity of a short sea voyage onboard a naval vessel and visit several naval ships as well as the naval museum, which is full of exhibits showing the country’s maritime legacy and many battle victories at sea.

The event concluded with a cadet band display and a colourful cultural show by the Navy’s Western Band and the Cultural Troupe. Officers from the NMA and the NCC, principals and teachers of the participating schools and parents of the sea cadets were also present on the occasion.
