Dead body of a fisherman brought ashore with naval assistance

The Navy’s Offshore Patrol Vessel, Sagara, rendered assistance to bring the dead body of a fisherman ashore on 28th September 2015. He had died of chickenpox while onboard a multi-day fishing trawler in south eastern deep seas.

The Navy alerted its OPV, which had been on routine patrol, in response to a request made by Department of Fisheries and Aquatic resources seeking assistance for a fisherman, who had been suffering from chickenpox. Unfortunately, the fisherman had died due to the acuteness of his illness. However, the naval vessel took immediate action to escort the fishing vessel to Tangalle fisheries harbour.
