SLN assists SL Coast Guard to arrest 07 Indian fishermen poaching in Sri Lankan waters

Sri Lanka Navy assisted the Sri Lanka Coast Guard to arrest 07 Indian fishermen with a fishing trawler poaching in Sri Lankan waters in the seas north east of Point Pedro in Jaffna on 01st October 2015.

The arrested fishermen along with the fishing trawler handed over to the officials of the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (Jaffna) for further investigations.

SLN conducts routine patrols and surveillance to ensure the security of the seas surrounding the island-nation. It also renders assistance to Sri Lanka Coast Guard to prevent illegal activities at sea to protect the marine resources belonging to the country and enable Sri Lankan fishermen to engage in their livelihoods in accordance with the country’s maritime laws in a sustainable manner without harming the fishing resources.
