Nineteen Indian fishermen arrested in Sri Lankan waters

Sri Lanka Navy assisted the Sri Lanka Coast Guard to arrest nineteen Indian fishermen along with two Indian fishing trawlers poaching in Sri Lankan waters East of Point Pedro and East of Vettalakerni on 09th October 2015. Approximately 4000 kgs of fish catch, which included Cuttlefish, Shark, Salaya and Reef fish, was also taken into custody during the arrest.

The arrested fishermen and the trawlers along with the fish catch were brought to Kankasanthurai and handed over to the officials of the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (Jaffna) for onward action.
