All-night pirith chanting and mid-day alms giving at SLNS Gemunu in view of 65th Navy Day

An all-night pirith chanting ceremony followed by a mid-day alms giving was held at SLNS Gemunu in Welisara on 03rd and 04th December 2015 in view of the 65th Navy Day. The Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne, the President of the Navy Seva Vanitha Unit, Mrs. Yamuna Wijegunaratne, the Chief of Staff of the Navy, Rear Admiral Sirimevan Ranasinghe, the Commander Western Naval Area, Rear Admiral Jayantha De Silva, senior naval officers attached to Naval Headquarters and a large number of naval personnel and their family members attended the event where religious blessings were invoked on the heroic naval personnel who were killed in action while safeguarding the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the country.

The relic casket was taken in a colourful procession and the alms were offered to 65 Buddhist monks. The family members of the naval personnel who paid the supreme sacrifice were also invited to participate in the religious ceremony.
