Steeped in rich traditions and customs unique to a sea going arm, the Sri Lanka Navy is second to none when it comes to socialization and quality entertainment. Accordingly, the much awaited Navy Ball 2015 took place at the Western Naval Command Wardroom at SLNS Rangalla on the evening of 13th December 2015. The Secretary of the Ministry of Defence, Eng. Karunasena Hettiarachchi graced the occasion as the Chief Guest at the invitation of the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne and Mrs. Yamuna Wijegunaratne, the proud hosts of the glamorous evening. Amongst the special invitees were former Commanders of the Navy, the Chief of Defence Staff, the Commander of the Army, the Commander of the Air Force, the senior officers of the tri-forces and their spouses.

The Silent Service expects its officers to be gentlemen and ladies of refined manner and punctilious courtesy. The maintenance of its traditions is a tremendous force, forming the "Esprit-de-corps", which is an integral part of the service life. Due to popular demand after a lapse 35 years, Navy Ball, came alive in 2014 under the theme, “Rock on Deck”, allowing the gentlemen and ladies in blue to socialize and keep their toes tapping and make their bodies move to scintillating music.

Befitting the occasion, the ceremonial Sun Set added colour and the posting of flags infused a traditional ambience to this mega social event. The Navy Band provided music to the dancing sessions while the SLN’s Dancing Troupe enlivened the night with their graceful performances at the intermissions. The highlight of the evening was the selection of the Navy Queen. Miss Teshinee Jayawardena, the daughter of Surgeon Commodore Sena Rupa Jayawardena and Mrs. Rasika Jayawardena, was adjudged as the Navy Queen 2015. She was crowned by Mrs. Yamuna Wijegunaratne, the wife of the Commander of the Navy, and was sashed by the Secretary of the Ministry of Defence.
