Tree planting campaigns held to mark the first anniversary of President's assumption of office

A tree planting campaign to mark the first anniversary of assumption of office by His Excellency the President Maithripala Sirisena was held at the Naval Headquarters on 09th January 2016 under the patronage of the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne. Similar tree planting campaigns were conducted in all the Naval Areas to coincide with the main event.

Religious ceremonies were also held to invoke blessings on the President and the Government at religious places of worship with the participation of senior naval officers and sailors attached to the Naval Headquarters.

The Navy, which is highly concerned about the preservation of environment and safeguarding of the forest cover of the island, has initiated a series of tree planting campaigns in its bases island wide. So far over 32,000 tree saplings have been planted under the Navy’s Green Initiative for the benefit of the future generations.
