Eighty-one Midshipmen belonging to the 53rd Cadet Entry Intake on completion of their strenuous training at the Naval and Maritime Academy (NMA) in Trincomalee as well as onboard various naval ships were commissioned at a colourful commissioning parade held at the main parade ground of the NMA on 02nd February 2016.

Navy divers were able to recover the dead bodies of five fishermen who had been missing after their multi-day fishing trawler had collided with a merchant vessel 40 nautical miles south east of the Little Basses on 31st January 2016.

The Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne declared open the five (5) newly built rooms at the Lake Front Resort in Kantale on 01st February 2016.
