Navy takes part in CISM Day Run 2016

This year's CISM Day Run organized by the Sri Lanka Air Force was held on 21st February 2016. Over hundred personnel each service participated in the mega event which was flagged off opposite the Air Force Rifle Green Grounds at 6.15 am. The Secretary to the Ministry of Defence Eng. Karunasena Hettiarachchi attend the event as the Chief Guest. The Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Crishantha De Silva, the Commander of the Air Force and present President of the Defence Services Sports Board Air Marshal Gagan Bulathsinghala, the Chief of Staff of the Navy Rear Admiral Sirimevan Ranasinghe, senior officers of the tri forces and other ranks were also present at the event.

The run covered a distance of 2 kilometers and participants received certificates from the Commander of the Army, the Commander of the Air Force and the Chief of Staff of the Navy on completion of their run.

The event was conducted under the aegis of the Brussels-based International Military Sports Council (Conseil International du Sport Militaire - CISM) with its aim of promoting sports among military personnel. Totally integrated in CISM solidarity principles, the event helps disseminate the CISM motto, “Friendship through Sport” among millions of service personnel of 133 CISM member nations.
