Navy installs a Reverse Osmosis plant in Vavunia
 

At an invitation of the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne the Secretary of the Ministry of Defence Eng. Karunasena Hettiarachchi declared open an RO plant for public use in Irattai Periyakulam in Vavunia today (10). Minister of Agriculture Hon. Duminda Dissanayake, Tri Forces Commanders, Commander North Central Naval Area, Rear Admiral Dimuthu Gunawardena, host of officers representing the Naval Headquarters and North Central Command and residents of the area were present on the occasion.     

The engineers of Sri Lanka Navy’s Research and Development Unit have invented and implemented the RO plant project as a social welfare motive for the needy. Generally the cost of this type of RO plant is estimated to be Rs. 5000000 /=, however Navy is capable of inventing this plant at a cost of Rs. 1000000/=. It will fulfill a long-felt need in the area where a high prevalence of the Chronic Kidney Disease is recorded. As such, the Navy’s community service will be a great relief to the residents who were deprived of safe drinking water. Apart from this particular village, Navy has already installed RO plants of this caliber in five more villages.
