9th Defence Services Games begins
 

The 9th Defence Services Games was ceremonially declared open by the State Minister of Defence Mr. Ruwan Wijewardane today (24) at the new sports complex in Panagoda Army camp. The other dignitaries who participated in the event were Ministry of Defence Eng. Karunasena Hettiarachchi, the Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Crishantha De Silva, the Commander of the Navy Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne and the current president of the Defence Services Sports Council and Commander of the Air Force Air Marshal Gagan Bulathsinghala.

The Defence Services Games which has drawn much attention in the sports circuit, is a golden opportunity to identify the prospective sport personalities in the service. Those who excel in the event will eventually get the chance to represent the country giving an honour to the respective services.

The sports personnel representing tri-forces are going to compete in 37 sporting disciplines from March to August 2016.
