Commander of the Navy felicitated by His Alma Mater
 

Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy, Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne, one of the most eminent alumni of Royal College Colombo, was felicitated by his alma mater today (03). On arrival, the Commander of the Navy was warmly received by the Principal and the Staff. Thereafter he was ushered to the War Hero Memorial of the college where the Commander of the Navy paid floral tribute to the fallen war heroes who made the supreme sacrifice to eradicate terrorism in Sri Lanka. Subsequently the school cadet platoon accorded him a Guard of Honour at the sports ground. A large number of dignitaries including the old boys of the college, staff, parents and well-wishers were present on the occasion.

Parallel to this felicitation, the Primary Prefects’ Induction ceremony too got underway under the precedence of the Commander of the Navy at “Navarangahala” school auditorium. During the ceremony Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne distributed certificates to the primary students of the college as well. Meanwhile the Principal of Royal College, Mr. B.A. Abeyrathna pinned the prefect badges on the students. Further he handed over a special memento to the Commander of the Navy for the honour he brought in being a proud Old-Royalist.

Vice Admiral Wijegunaratne is renowned as an eminent Old Boy of Royal College Colombo during 1969-1980, who has excelled both in sports as well as extra-curricular activities. Further he had shaped up his school career being a Junior Prefect and a President Scout of the School. The experience he gained through wide range of activities in the college had helped immensely to elevate himself to become the Commander of the Navy.
