Navy renders assistance to protect the Parliament complex from rising flood water level
 

Amidst the extreme weather condition prevailing in the country, flood water has approached the Parliament Complex as the water level of “Diyawanna Lake” is on the rise. To control the situation two teams of 102 and 30 naval personnel were swiftly attached to the Parliamentary complex last night (15) and this morning (16) respectively. Naval personnel managed to contain the rising flood water, by erecting an embankment around the complex with sand bags. Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne was also at the Parliament Complex this morning to monitor the progress of the embankment.

Further naval personnel were deployed for flood relief duties in Thalduwa, Rajagiriya, Wellampitiya, Malwana and Kegalle areas as well. Besides, 69 Flood relief teams were kept on standby in Naval Commands across the Island to rescue the affected persons from 14^th May onwards, as follows,
