Navy assists people affected by floods due to extreme weather
 

The adverse weather condition prevailing in the Island has resulted floods and landslides in many parts of the country. In order to make a speedy response, the Navy had deployed 31 teams in rescue and relief duties across the Island. Accordingly relief teams were engaged in rescue duties in areas such as Thalduwa, Gampaha, Nawagamuwa, Kelanimulla, Malwana, Ruwanwella, Kaduwela, Ranala, Wellampitiya, Dompe, Ovitigama, Tharala, Rajanganaya, Mandagalaru, Poonarine, Eppawala, Nikaweratiya, Giribawa, Neelabemma, Rasnayakapura and Thabbowa.

Thus far, naval personnel managed to rescue the lives of 633 civilians and transfer 188 distressed persons to safe locations. Further dead bodies of two persons who got drowned due to floods in Mampuri and Wariyapola were also recovered by the Navy. Besides 41 more flood relief teams are kept on standby covering all the Naval Commands to meet any emergency situation.
