Sri Lanka Navy Baseball team leaves for Japan
 

At the invitation of Japan-Sri Lanka Baseball Association in Japan, Sri Lanka Navy Baseball team departed from the Island on 18th May 2016 to participate in a six day training tour. On completion of their training camp held in Fukuoka, the Navy Baseball team was fortunate to compete with some leading Baseball clubs in Japan as well.

The main sponsorship for the tour was offered by South Asia Gateway Terminals (Pvt) Ltd. Baseball is considered as the most popular sport in Japan. The tour also paved the way for the Navy Baseball team who are the current national champions, to acquire some of the unique tactics and training techniques of the game. Meanwhile the President of the Japan-Sri Lanka Baseball Association, Mr. Sujeewa Wijenayaka donated Baseball equipment worth over Rs. 2.5 million to the Navy team. Among them the bowling machine that is worth around Rs.1 million is considered as a rare gift received by the Navy.
