Navy nabs seven local fishermen engaged in illegal fishing
 

On receipt of information, naval personnel attached to SLNS Vijayaba in Nilaveli belonging to the Eastern Naval Command arrested 7 persons engaged in illegal fishing activities using explosive in the sea area North of Erakkandi on 24^th May 2016. Along with the suspects 2 dinghies, 3 pairs of diving fins, a banned fishing net (Monofilament Net) and oxygen cylinders were also taken in to the naval custody.

The apprehended persons and the belongings were handed over to Kuchchaweli Police through Area Fisheries Inspector for onward legal action.
