Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Navy attends 15th IISS Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore
 

Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Navy, Rear Admiral Sirimevan Ranasinghe attended the 15th IISS Shangri-La Dialogue: Asia Security Summit in Singapore. The Sri Lankan delegation to the annual security summit held this year, from 3rd to 5th of this month, was headed by Secretary to the Ministry of Defence Eng. Karunasena Hettiarachchi.

The Shangri-La Dialogue is organized by the Asia Regional Office of U.K.-based International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS), in collaboration with Singaporean Ministry of Defence. The summit serves as a key forum for the discussion and analysis of defence and security concerns, and a forum where Asia-Pacific’s defence ministers, Chiefs of Defence Staff, Permanent Heads of Defence Ministries, Intelligence chiefs, policy makers, academics and representatives could engage in dialogue and share their vision and policy on wide ranging security issues and other issues of mutual interests.

The Keynote address was delivered by the Prime Minister of Thailand, General (retd) Prayut Chan-o-cha. During his address the Prime Minister pointed out that security is the foundation for prosperity and stability, and that sustainable security is composed of military and development dimensions.

High Commissioner of Sri Lanka for Singapore, H.E. Nimal Weeraratne, Chief of Defence Staff Air Chief Marshall KA Gunatilleke, Director General - General Staff of the Army, Major General BA Perera, Director Logistics of Air Force, Air Vice Marshal DLS Dias and Senior Asst. Secretary (Foreign Affairs) Ministry of Defence, Ms Sashikala Premawardhane also attended the summit.
