Navy helps to develop Soccer in the schools located in the Islands of Northern Naval Command
 

As per the directives of Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne, the Northern Naval Command commenced several Soccer coaching camps for the school children who are in the Islands of Jaffna Peninsula. The prime objective of conducting these camps was to promote Soccer in schools located in Jaffna Peninsula and establish two Soccer teams (under 13 and 15) comprising players from Karaitivu, Eluvativu, Analativu, Nayanativu, Punkudativu, Mandativu and Delft Islands.

Experienced Soccer coach, Retired Lieutenant Sukumaran was nominated for coaching duties as per the instructions of Commander of the Navy and he was assisted by several naval personnel who are competent in the game of Soccer. With due approval of the school principals, Lieutenant Sukumaran carried out training sessions for the school children since mid-May 2016 and by the end of June it is scheduled to conduct the Inter-Island Soccer Tournament to select players for the under 15 ‘Islands Team’. The coaching camps for the under 13 children will continue further.
