Sixteen Indian fishermen arrested for poaching in Sri Lankan waters
 

Sri Lanka Navy assisted Sri Lanka Coast Guard to arrest sixteen (16) Indian fishermen who were poaching in Sri Lankan waters in two separate locations last night (6). Accordingly, 5 fishermen along with a fishing trawler, engaged in illegal fishing, were apprehended in the sea area South of Delft Island. The apprehended persons and items will be handed over to Jaffna Fisheries Inspectorate for onward action.

On the same day, another 11 Indian fishermen and 2 fishing trawlers were taken into custody while engaging in illegal fishing activities in Sri Lankan waters North of Mannar. The apprehended fishermen along with fishing trawlers will be produced to Mannar Assistant Directorate of Fisheries for further investigations.
