Navy undertakes a cleaning programme at Kumana National Park

Naval personnel attached to SLNS Mahanaga located in Panama belonging to the Southeastern Naval Area undertook a special cleaning programme, under the guidance of Commander Southeastern Naval Area, Commodore Sumith Weerasinghe yesterday (18). Accordingly a land area of 23 km, from Okanda to Kubukkan Oya, was cleaned by the Navy.

The area was littered with the garbage left alone by the devotees who made a Foot Pilgrimage (Pada Yaththra) from Jaffna to Katharagama recently. However the naval personnel managed to clean the area very quickly, bringing it back to pre-condition. Deputy Area Commander, Commodore Sudath Kurukulasooriya, officers and sailors also rendered their active participation in this regard.
