“Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy” is appointed for the first time in naval history
 

Acting upon a concept of Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne, the latest position, “Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy”, for the sailors of the Sri Lanka Navy was formed and Master Chief Petty Officer TG Neelkaru XS 15959 was appointed as the first ever “Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy” by Commander of the Navy today (11). A senior sailor for this designation is selected having carefully scrutinizing his past service records.

Being selected as the “Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy” the senior sailor is expected to look into the welfare, training and administrative affairs of the sailors and forward necessary suggestions and recommendations to Commander of the Navy through Director General Personnel. Further he will enjoy the privilege of representing the Navy as the most senior sailor in state’s official ceremonies and other functions.
