First ever Mobile RO Water Treatment Plant vested for public use

Fulfilling another community welfare oriented initiative the Sri Lanka Navy deployed its first mobile Reverse Osmosis (RO) water treatment plant for public use in Hambegamuwa, yesterday (16). The mobile RO plant produced by the Navy’s Research and Development Unit on a directive of the Commander of the Navy Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne will serve the drinking water requirements of about 3000 people in the area.

The specialty of this mobile RO plant is its ability to purify water sourced from rivers and reservoirs and supply it for drinking purposes thereafter. The plant which has a capacity of 10,000 liters of water will enable to supply the regular water requirements of the people in Hambegamuwa area. The maintenance of this plant will be carried out by the Southeastern Naval Command.

As per the Commander of the Navy’s directive five more such water treatment plants are to be installed in the region where Chronic Kidney Disease is widespread. This measure will enable the people to draw safe drinking water for their daily use. In addition the Research and Development Unit is also in the process of producing a Solar Power Plant and Salt Water Treatment Plant to purify sea water for drinking purposes.
