Navy arrests 5 fishermen for illegal harvesting of sea cucumbers
 

Naval personnel attached to the Naval Deployment Vettilaikerni in Northern Naval Command arrested 5 fishermen who engaged in illegal harvesting of sea cucumbers yesterday (6).

The fishermen had engaged in night diving and illegal practices in prohibited sea areas off Vettilaikerniand Chundikulam for the harvesting of sea cucumbers. Along with the suspects 2 dinghies, 4 pairs of diving fins, 2 GPS units and 438 sea cucumbers were taken into naval custody. The apprehended persons along with the items were handed over to Jaffna Fisheries Inspector for further investigations.
