Commander of the Navy attends the anti-alcohol and drug campaign in Jaffna
 

His Excellency the President Maithripala Sirisena, grace the occation as the Chief Guest of “Mathin Nidahas Ratak – A Country Free of Drugs and Alcohol” programme which took place at the Duraiappa Stadium in Jaffna today (9). Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne and Commander Northern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Piyal De Silva also attended this function.

This National programme which was launched with the noble intention of protecting the younger generation from harmful drugs by making a drug free society, conceptualized by His Excellency the President. The event was made more colourful by the vivid performances presented by the school children in the area. Venerable Maha Sangha, other religious leaders, Honourable ministers, Secretary to the Ministry of Defence, Commander of the Army, Commander of the Air Force, Inspector General of Police, officers from tri services and Police, school children of Northern Province, parents and a large number of civilians were also present on the occasion. In appreciation of the Navy's efforts in preventing drug trafficking in the Northern Area, HE the President awarded Certificates of Appreciation to Commander Northern Naval Area and Staff Intelligence Officer (North) during the ceremony.
