Implementing yet another community service programme of the Sri Lanka Navy, a Reverse Osmosis (RO) plant was installed at Koruwewa Mahanama Maha Vidyalaya in Polpithigama considering the hardships faced by the students of the school and residents in the area. Accordingly the newly installed RO system was declared open by Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne today (15) using the online internet facility.

Addressing the students online, Commander of the Navy insisted the children to drink water processed from the RO plant and bring at least a bottle of purified water to their parents. This RO plant was set up, with overall contribution of the Sri Lanka Navy and sponsorship of Firefly Mission Singapore Institute, in an area where 45 patients of renal disease have been identified. However as a result of the installation of new RO plant, over 850 students of Koruwewa Mahanama Maha Vidyalaya and 250 families in the area will be benefited by safe drinking water. Sri Lanka Navy’s Research and Development Unit had utilized their expertise and technical know-how to build and install 24 RO plants in areas across the country where a highprevalence of the Chronic Interstitial Nephritis in Agricultural Communities (CINAC) is recorded and will continue its noble cause undertaking a wide range of community service projects. The ceremony was attended by the Venerable Maha Sangha, senior officers from the North Western Navl Command, principal, staff, and school children of Koruwawa Mahanama Maha Vidyalaya and a large number of residents in the area.
