As per the initiative of Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne, the second phase of the footwear distribution to the children in grade 1 to 5 of Maha Kashyapa Vidyalaya took place at the school premises yesterday (19).

During the Commander of the Navy’s visit to the opening ceremony of Oyamaduwa Senior Sailors’ Holiday Bungalow in North Central Naval Command on 15th July 2016, the helicopter he flew on was landed at the playground of Maha Kashyapa Vdyalaya and the school children were fortunate to pose for a photograph with Vice Admiral Wijegunaratne. On this occasion, the Commander of the Navy observed that most of the children come to school for education without shoes and immediately determined to provide the children with a pair of shoes and socks as soon as possible. Materializing the Navy Commander’s wish the first phase of the footwear distribution took place on 28th June 2016 and its second stage came to an end yesterday (19).

The principal and staff of Maha Kashyapa Vidyalaya extended their heartfelt gratitude to the Commander of the Navy and entire Navy in general for extending their assistance by helping the needy children in rural areas who follow their education amidst lot of hardship. Meanwhile this magnanimous effort of the officers and sailors who contributed with their money and various other ways, was highly commended by Commander of the Navy.
