Navy arrests six fishermen for harvesting sea cucumbers by illegal means
 

Naval personnel attached to SLNS Uththara located in Kankesanthurai in the Northern Naval Command arrested 6 fishermen who engaged in illegal scuba diving activities for the harvesting of sea cucumbers, in the sea area off Point Pedro yesterday (5).

Along with the suspects, 2 dinghies, 22 oxygen cylinders, 3 pairs of diving fins, 4 diving masks, 2 GPS units and 330 sea cucumbers were taken into naval custody. The apprehended fishermen and items were produced to Point Pedro Fisheries Inspector for onward investigations.
