Two senior naval officers bid farewell to their distinguished naval careers
 

Director General Services, Rear Admiral Eric Jayakody and Flag Officer Commanding Naval Fleet, Rear Admiral Dayananda Nanayakkara bade farewell to their illustrious naval careers today (6), which spanned for over 34 years. Upon calling on, Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne, both officers were accorded with a Guard of Honour in accordance with the naval traditions.

Subsequently, the fellow naval officers accompanied them to the portals of Naval Headquarters in a customary “vehicle fleet” and bade farewell to the outgoing Rear Admirals. The senior and junior sailors also gathered on either sides of the road to pay their tribute to both retiring senior naval officers. Both Rear Admirals joined the Sri Lanka Navy in 1982 as Officer Cadets of the 11th intake of officers. They had served in many ships and establishments during their highly decorated naval careers and imparted their wealth of knowledge gained through various foreign courses and engagements, for the betterment of the Navy. The service they rendered to the Sri Lanka Navy and motherland in general, will be cherished and remembered forever in the naval history.
