Eastern Command wins the President's Green Awards 2016: The best state institute maintained in an environmental friendly manner

The Eastern Naval Command won the President's Green Awards 2016, conferred for the best state institute that is maintained in an environmental friendly manner, during the awarding ceremony held at the BMICH, Colombo today (18).

Upon inspecting a wide range of environmental friendly programmes conducted by the Eastern Naval Command such as; mangrove plantation and protection, turtle hatchery, wild animal protection, beach cleaning, counter illegal fisheries activities, tree planting, oil spill management at sea, bio-gas project, paper recycling project, refrain from usage of polythene, coral reef protection, awareness programmes on environmental conservation, etc. , the officials of the Central Environmental Authority who carried out field inspection at the Naval Dockyard, selected the Eastern Naval Command to be conferred with this year's President's Green Awards.

The main aim of this all island programme, conducted by the Central Environmental Authority, is to promote sustainable management of environment in order to achieve a greenish country through clean green environment.
