Two Reverse Osmosis (RO) plants declared open in Anuradhapura

Going by the concept of Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne, another 2 RO plants produced by the Navy’s Research and Development Unit, declared open in Kokmaduwa and Puhulewewa areas in Anuradhapura today (7).

The Navy’s Research and Development Unit managed to install these two facilities in a record time with the financial provision made by the Presidential Task Force on Prevention of Kidney Diseases. The two safe compartments, in which the two systems are installed, were constructed by the naval Civil Engineers under the supervision of Commander North Central Naval Area, Rear Admiral Merril Wickramasinghe.

Over 400 families in Kokmaduwa and 600 families in Puhulewewa areas will benefit from the two RO systems, as they now have easy access for safe drinking water. Realizing the great need of having more RO systems in areas which are prone to Chronic Interstitial Nephritis, the Navy’s Research and Development Unit has been installing more facilities even amidst unfavourable weather conditions, in order to fulfill the safe drinking water requirement of people in such areas. Accordingly, they had installed 44 RO systems throughout the country thus far and facilitated more than 23,300 families and 16,000 school children with safe drinking water. The Navy wishes to continue with these kind of noble causes in the future as well.
