Commander of the Navy visits Northern Naval Command
 

Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne visited the Northern Naval Area yesterday (6) and declared open several facilities in the Northern Naval Command. Accordingly, a range of facilities including the new Sick Quarters building of SLNS Uththara, newly constructed extension to Uththara Pier and new accommodation building at Northern Naval Command Wardroom were declared open by Vice Admiral Wijegunaratne. Moreover, Commander of the Navy conveyed his highest appreciation to all naval personnel who involved in various tasks, bringing each project to successful completion.

In the evening, Commander of the Navy joined the opening ceremony in which the 3rd floor of Most Venerable Brahmanawaththe Dhammakiththi Thissa Memorial Building at Nagadeepa Purana Viharaya was bestowed on the Maha Sangha. This memorial building was constructed by the Sri Lanka Navy, utilizing the financial donations of the Ministry of Buddhasasana, Sri Lanka Naval Buddhist Association and devotees of Nagadeepa.

Commander of the Navy also declared open the newly built Relic Chamber at the temple premises and took part in the religious ceremony of placing the Relic Casket followed by a Bodhi Pooja Pinkama. Venerable Maha Sangha invoked blessings on the Commander of the Navy and all naval personnel on the occasion. The religious ceremony was also attended by Commander Northern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Piyal De Silva, senior officers from the Naval Headquarters and Northern Naval Command and sailors.
