Navy rescues a critically ill fisherman and four persons drowning in Gopalpuram Seas
 

The Sri Lanka Navy yesterday (14), rendered assistance to transfer a critically ill fisherman ashore for treatment. The fisherman was onboard a multiday fishing vessel named ‘Jeewantha Putha’ which had ventured into the sea for fishing from the Ambalangoda Fisheries Harbour.

Acting swiftly upon information received from Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, the naval personnel onboard SLNS Suranimila had rescued the patient and subsequently handed over to the Fast Attack Craft P 411. Having swiftly brought the patient to the Naval Base SLNS Dakshina, he was then rushed to the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital in Galle for further medical treatment.

On the same day, Naval personnel attached to SLNS Vijayaba located in Nilaweli in the Eastern Naval Command and the lifesavers of the Sri Lanka Coast Guard rescued 4 persons who were drowning in the Gopalpuram Seas. The rescued persons are 40, 32, 30 and 14 aged residents of Akurana in Kandy. One person of the rescued members was in critical condition and was admitted to the Divisional Hospital, Nilaveli for treatment.
