Rear Admiral Sarath Dissanayake honoured in farewell salute

Rear Admiral Sarath Dissanayake who held office as the Director General Administration retired form his 34 year-long distinguished tenure in the naval service where he dispatched a noble duty for the Navy and motherland. Following the naval traditions Rear Admiral Sarath Dissanayake called on Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne and he was congratulated for the invaluable services rendered. Subsequently, he was awarded with a Guard of Honour in accordance with naval customs and traditions.

The customary farewell ceremony took off ground where Rear Admiral Sarath Dissanayake was accompanied to the gates of Naval Headquarters in a vehicle fleet by the fellow naval officers to honour the Setiring Rear Admiral with a farewell salute. The senior and junior sailors also gathered in numbers on either side of the street to pay their tribute to their senior naval officer. Rear Admiral Sarath Dissanayake joined Sri Lanka Navy in 1982 as an Officer Cadet of the 11th Cadet Intake. During his highly decorated naval career, Rear Admiral Dissanayake had served in many ships and establishments and imparted his hard-earned experience and knowledge for the progress of the Navy. The noble service he rendered for the Navy and country will be among the golden chapters of the annals of the Sri Lanka Navy.
