Navy arrests 8 local fishermen engaged in illegal fishing

Naval personnel attached to SLNS Therapuththa located in Silawathurai in the Northwestern Naval Command arrested 8 local fishermen who engaged in illegal fishing activities using unlawful fishing gear in the sea area of Silawathurai yesterday (26).

During the arrest; 2 dinghies, 2 unauthorized fishing nets (Surukku) and 2 pairs of diving fins were taken into naval custody. The apprehended persons and belongings were handed over to the Mannar Fisheries Inspector for further investigations.
