Navy renders assistance to Indian fishermen in distress

Naval personnel onboard Fast Attack Craft P 4445 attached to the 4th Fast Attack Flotilla in the Eastern Naval Command, Trincomalee rescued 6 Indian fishermen in distress aboard a fishing vessel in Poduwakattu sea area yesterday (5).

The fishermen who had ventured into fishing from the Andaman Islands, faced this ill-fated situation due to an engine failure of the vessel, sustained as a result of rough seas and had been adrift for around 40 days out at sea. Having brought them to the Naval Base SLNS Walagamba, naval personnel attended to effect repairs of the ill-fated engine, provided them with food, drinking water and fuel for the vessel and will escorted the vessel and Indian fishermen back to the IMBL in due course.
