Commander of the Navy visits Eastern and Northern Naval Commands

The Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne made a visit to the Eastern Naval Command on 21^st January 2017. The Flag Officer Commanding Naval Fleet, Rear Admiral Kapila Samaraweera warmly received the Commander of the Navy upon his arrival.

During this inspection tour, Vice Admiral Wijegunaratne visited the Naval Bases; SLNS Gotabhaya located in Mullaitivu, SLNS Vijayaba in Nilaveli and SLNS Ranweli in Pulmoddai belonging to the Eastern Naval COmmand. He also addressed the Commanding Officers, officers and sailors of the respective naval bases.

Having completed his visit in the Eastern Naval Command, the Commander of the Navy arrived in the Northern Naval Command yesterday (22) for another visit of inspection. The Commander of the Navy was received to the Northern Naval Command by Commander Northern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Piyal De Silva. During this visit, Vice Admiral Wijegunaratne also took time off to pay homage to the Nagadeepa Rajamaha Viharaya and declared open two Reverse Osmosis plants set up by the Navy at the temple premises and Eluvaitivu Church.

Thereafter, the Commander of the Navy made inspection visits to the naval bases; SLNS Uththara, SLNS Agbo, SLNS Elara, SLNS Kanchadewa, SLNS Wasba and SLNS Welusumana located in the Northern Naval Command and shared a light moment with the officers and sailors attached to those bases. While addressing the naval personnel, he emphasized the importance of the service rendered by the naval personnel in reaching military and national objectives whilst maintaining a good relationship with the civilian community in the area. The dedication and commitment of the officers and sailors to fulfil the assigned tasks and maintain the operational readiness both at sea and on land were appreciated by the Commander.
