The rock-carved Buddha statue at Nagadeepa Temple unveiled
 

The Secretary to the Ministry of Defence, Eng. Karunasena Hettiarachchi unveiled the rock-carved Buddha statue at the Nagadeepa Purana Rajamaha Viharaya today (26). Accordingly, this rock-carved Buddha statue which is under the sheltering of ‘Muchalinda Naga Raja’ will be now open for the reverence of the devotees who visit the temple.

Following the admonition of the Chief Prelate of Nagadeepa Purana Rajamaha Viharaya and Chief Sanghanayaka of Northern Province, Praveenacharya Dharma Keerthi Sri Ven. Navadagala Padumakiththi Tissa Thera and under careful supervision of the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne, this sculpture of Buddha was carved by Lieutenant Commander (Retd) DMS Jayawardana.

The Secretary to the State Ministry of Land, Mr. Sarath Chandrasiri Vithana, Commander of the Navy, a former Commander of the Navy and present Chancellor of General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University, Admiral (Retd) Daya Sandagiri, Commander Northern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Piyal De Silva, senior officers and a large number of devotees were also present on this meritorious occasion.
