New Commanding Officer of Volunteer Naval Force commences duties
 

Captain WMJB Wijekoon, who was newly appointed as the Commanding Officer of the Volunteer Naval Force (VNF) assumed duties at SLNS Lanka, the Volunteer Naval Force Headquarters in Welisara, today (11).

Upon the retirement of the previous Commanding Officer of the VNF, Commodore Titus Kannangara who held office since 2nd March 2016, Captain Jayarathna Wijekoon was appointed as the new Commanding Officer.

Captain Wijekoon joined the Volunteer Naval Force on 01st November 1989 as an Acting Sub Lieutenant and got promoted to the rank of Captain on 01st January 2016 over his 27 years of naval service. By profession he is a senior lecturer in a National College of Education and obtained his Diploma in teaching English from the Teacher Training College Bolawalana. Moreover, he obtained his Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Peradeniya, Post Graduate Diploma in Education from the University of Colombo and Masters Degree in English from Ulster University in Ireland. Before assuming duty as the Commanding officer of VNF he performed duty as the Director Academic Studies at the Naval and Maritime Academy, Trincomalee.
