A disaster management programme held Hambantota
 

As part of yet another event conducted in parallel with the Pacific Partnership 2017 which is being operated centered in the Port of Hambantota, a disaster management training programme was held at the Mahinda Rajapaksha Auditorium today (13).

The programme was organized by the Flag Officer Commanding Naval Fleet. During the programme awareness programmes were conducted to respond to situations of tsunami, floods, drought and other natural disasters. The Sri Lanka Army and Air Force also conducted comprehensive awareness programmes as to how relief missions are carried out on land and air. Further, the officials of Disaster Management Centre carried out a mock alarming in view of making the general public aware of precautionary measures to be taken in a tsunami situation. Meanwhile, the officers of recently established SLN Marine Battalion made an introduction to the functions of the battalion as well.

The occasion was attended by the Commander Southern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenna, Flag Officer Commanding Naval Fleet, Rear Admiral Kapila Samaraweera, a host of senior officers from the tri-services and foreign defence forces. Mementoes were also exchanged to mark the significance of this occasion.
