Rear Admiral Saratchandra Amarasinghe honoured in farewell salute
 

The Director Marine Engineering, Rear Admiral Saratchandra Amarasinghe MBA, BSc (Eng) Hon, CEng, MIE (SL) today (28) bade farewell to his illustrious naval career which spanned over 35 years. Upon calling on the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne, the officer was accorded with a Guard of Honour in accordance with the naval traditions.

Subsequently, the fellow naval officers accompanied him to the portals of the Naval Headquarters in a customary vehicle fleet, and bade farewell to the outgoing Rear Admiral. The senior and junior sailors also gathered on either side of the road to pay their tribute to the retiring senior naval officer.

Rear Admiral Amarasinghe joined the Sri Lanka Navy in 1981 as an Officer Cadet of the 2nd Intake of the General Sri John Kotelawala Defence Academy. He rendered a commendable service to the Navy in various capacities holding key appointments such as the Commodore Superintendent Dockyard, Director Engineering Services and finally Director Marine Engineering, during his highly decorated naval career.

He is married to Mrs. Champika Kumari Amarisinghe and they are blessed with a loving daughter, Yuvini Charithma and son Sachira Yuvin.

The service he rendered to the Navy and motherland will be cherished and remembered in the annals of the Sri Lanka Navy.
