Six Reverse Osmosis plants declared open
 

The Sri Lanka Navy has been implementing a wide range of community service projects under the visionary leadership of the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne. The installation of Reverse Osmosis (RO) plants in kidney prone areas is one of the many such noble projects undertaken by the Sri Lanka Navy. Taking further step ahead with this effort, 6 RO plants were declared open at Aluketiyawa Primary School in Mahiyangana, Abepura Vidyalaya, Nagadeepa Track 1 Primary School, Dikyaya Vidyalaya, Andaulpatha National School in Badulla and Army 62 Division in Galkulama, Padaviya yesterday (28)

The facilities are capable of providing safe drinking water for a total of 1878 students, 134 teachers and 1724 families. The details are as follows:

* 70 school children, 8 teachers of Aluketiyawa Primary School and 226 families in the region

* 243 school children, 22 teachers of Abepura Vidyalaya and 450 families in the area

* 80 school children, 7 teachers of Nagadeepa Track 1 Primary School and 720 families in the area

* 85 school children, 12 teachers of Dikyaya Vidyalaya and 108 families in the area and

* 1,400 school children, 85 teachers of Andaulpatha National School and 720 families in the region.

Besides, the RO plant installation at Army 62 Division in Galkulama, will provide clean drinking water for 325 Army personnel attached to the 62 Division along with 320 families residing in the area.

The financial allocations for these projects were made by the Presidential Task Force on Prevention of Chronic Kidney Disease.

Incidentally, the Navy has successfully installed a total of 176 RO facilities across the country to date, facilitating over 81,619 families and 64,581 school children with safe drinking water provided free of charge. Further, the Navy is determined and will continue to set up more RO plants in due course.
