Colombo Supercross - 2017 to speed off in Welisara on 7th May
 

The inaugural motor sport event organized by the Sri Lanka Navy in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Association of Racing Drivers and Riders (SLARDAR), ‘Colombo Supercross -2017’ is scheduled to be commenced tomorrow (7) at 0830 hrs at the Navy’s gravel racing track, Welisara. Secretary to the Misnistry of Defence, Eng. Karunasena Hettiarachchi is expected to grace the occasion as the Chief Guest.

Over 200 racing drivers and riders will to race for honours in 12 motor car and 10 motorbike events. Accordingly 125 racing riders and 85 drivers will go at head to head racing experience challenging their opponents.

The motor bike track is 1.8 km in length with jumps and bends including the longest jump in Sri Lanka. The topography of the terrain provides excellent viewing angles to the avid fans of motor sports enabling them to catch the sight of champion riders and drivers from a higher ground level. Further, a thrilling motor sport experience is rest-assured for both constants and fans what they can experience nowhere else in the county. The elevated platforms on either side of the track can accommodate over 10,000 spectators with ease.

Some of the frontline companies in Sri Lanka made sure the successful organization of this mega racing event with their generous sponsorship. Among the conglomerate of event sponsors were, Shell Lubricants, CEAT Marketing, Stafford Motor Co, Elephant House, Mahindra Motors and Mc Larens Lubricants.

A major share of the expected profits generated through this event is to be utilized for the welfare of the families of Naval War Heroes perished in action and brave naval personnel sustained injuries and got disabled during the period of hostilities.
