Commander of the Navy presides over Naval War Hero Commemoration in Welisara
 

The Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne, today (19) at 0900 hrs, presided over a ceremony held at the War Hero Monument in Welisara, to commemorate the naval war heroes who made supreme sacrifices for the motherland. The remembrance ceremony was organized to coincide with the National War Hero Commemoration which falls today.

During the ceremony, the Commander of the Navy offered floral tributes at the War Hero Monument as a mark of respect to the fallen war heroes and observed two-minute silence in recognition of their great sacrifices.

The occasion was also attended by; Chief of Staff of the Navy, Rear Admiral Sirimevan Ranasinghe, Commander Western Naval Area, Rear Admiral Niraja Attygalle, Director Generals, senior officers from the Naval Headquarters and a host of officers and sailors from the Western Naval Command. This event marked the 8th successive remembrance ceremony of naval war heroes.
