First mini RO plant produced by Navy Research and Development Unit, donated to naval War Hero family

The first ever mini Reverse Osmosis (RO) plant produced by the Navy Research and Development Unit making use of its technological know-how and expertise, donated to a naval War Hero family on 25th of this month.

Accordingly, the first of its kind RO system was bestowed on the family members of the fallen naval Petty Officer DMRPK Dissanayake, residing in Maspotha Kurunegala. Petty Officer Dissanayake made final sacrifice for the motherland during the last phase of the Humanitarian Operation on 30th April 2009.

The new unit which is capable of producing safe drinking water for the domestic chores, had been produced by the Navy Research and Development Unit in a cost effective manner and short span of time.

Under a visionary concept of the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne, this noble social responsibility project is being carried out facilitating the general public with clean drinking water. This act of generosity will also signify an important landmark of the magnanimous effort of RO plant installation implemented by the Navy. The prime motive behind the Navy undertaking this project is to facilitate communities with safe drinking water, in areas where high prevalence of kidney disease is recorded.

The Navy had thus far installed 203 RO plants across the country providing safe drinking water for over 100,790 families and 75,000 school children. Further, the Navy is determined to continue this noble effort into the future, in a bid to serve communities who are deprived of safe drinking water.
